Tamale, Sept 30, GNA – Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, the Northern Regional Minister, on Tuesday appealed to Muslim leaders to preach peace all the time and exercise control over the youth who are often used by politicians to cause mayhem. He said this when he addressed hundreds of Moslem faithful at the Tamale Jubilee Park to mark Eid-Ul-Fitr. “Let us see ourselves as brothers and sisters belonging to different political parties and therefore no need to harm each other in the name of politics”, Alhaji Idris said. He called on all political and religious leaders and other stakeholders involved in peace to ensure that the electioneering campaign was conducted devoid of acrimony. He said the Northern Region had already tasted its first election-related violence in Tamale and Gushiegu and expressed the hope that these would not be experienced in the region again. Alhaji Idris appealed to Moslems who intend to embark on this year’s pilgrimage to Mecca to follow laid down procedures to avoid falling into the hands of some unscrupulous hajj agents. Alhaji Abdul-Salaam Adam, Chief Imam of the Tamale Central Mosque, advised the youth against social vices such as alcoholism, drug-abuse and immoral behaviour. He appealed to Moslems, especially the youth, to desist from being seen in the fore-front of political violence.
