Muslim community organizes fund-raising at Betiako

Betiako (Ash), May 20, GNA – The Muslim community in and around Kojo-Betiako in the Ahafo-Ano North district of Ashanti realized 12-million cedis during a fund-raising on Thursday in aid of a mosque and a school building project.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nana Eric Agyeman Prempeh, the District Chief Executive, praised the Muslims for the idea of establishing a basic school in the area and assured them of the district assembly’s preparedness to assist. He advised them to take advantage of the capitation grant and the school-feeding programme to send their children to school. The DCE asked them to ensure that they provide the needs of their children and keep them in school until they reached an appreciable level in the educational ladder.

Alhaji Ahmed, the Deputy National Co-ordinator of Islamic Mission, praised the government for the introduction of the domestic Violence Bill to protect women and children from all forms of inhuman treatment. He cautioned those calling for the inclusion of marital rape in the bill to also consider its possibility to bring unnecessary tension in married homes, which could lead to frequent broken marriages. Mr Kwame Owusu Frimpong, the Member of Parliament for Ahafo-Ano North, warned people who for their own selfish interest continue to destroy the country’s natural resources especially the forest to stop, explaining that the effect of their wickedness could bring untold hardship to the entire nation. 20 May 06
