Suhum (E/R), March 23, GNA – Okpoti Allome, a 38-year-old farmer, who allegedly killed Martha Opata, 18, and inflicted cutlass wounds on her two sisters in 1997, was on Monday remanded by a magistrate’s court at Suhum.
Allome, who was arrested in his hideout at Adenta, in Accra, fled after killing the deceased and wounding Madam Elizabeth Kudeha and Madam Mary Sewordor at Troto, a farming village near Suhum. The court, presided over by Mr M.E. Essandor, adjourned the case to March 24.
Giving the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector J.D Gruah, said the accused was a farm labourer at Troto who lived in the same house with the deceased and her two sisters and that on November 24, 1997, he allegedly attacked the sisters with a cutlass at mid-night resulting in the death of Martha.
He said the alarm raise by the sisters attracted other neighbours to the scene who managed to arrest Allome and handed him over to the police.
Inspector Gruah said the accused, who was arraigned before the Suhum Magistrate Court and was remanded in custody, later fell sick and was sent to a psychiatric hospital in Accra but managed to run away.
