Murder Suspect In Police Grips

Half-Assini(W/R), Aug 18, – Stephen Beyelah, an alleged ring leader in a murder case at Mpataba, near Half Assini, was last Friday remanded in prison custody at Sekondi by a Half-Assini Community Tribunal. Beyelah, whose plea was not taken, will appear before the tribunal on September eight, 1997. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Newton Okantah told the tribunal, chaired by Mr George Ngessiah, a circuit court judge, that the accused was mentioned in the murder of one Anthony Ndoli at Mpataba on August 10, 1997, but he escaped to Ngeme in Cote d’Ivoire. Inspector Okantah said some Ghanaians at Ngeme who had heard of Beyelah’s involvement in the case reported him to the chief of the town. The chief then caused his arrest and had him sent to Ghanaian border officials at Jewi Wharf who informed the police at Half-Assini. The first two accused persons, Stephen Whajah and Akah Tone, are already in prison custody. They will be put before the same tribunal on September eight, 1997.
