Muntari’s Dad was attacked in Nigeria, not Ghana

Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari has made a quick dash home to Ghana from England after his dad fell victim of a violent armed robbery attack.

Alhaji Sulley Muniru was on his way back from a wedding in Nigeria when he was attacked in Ibadan that left him with a broken arm and cuts to his head last week.

Portsmouth coach Harry Redknapp released the midfielder to be with his dad after yobs branding AK47s and baseball bats stole cash, jewellery and mobile phones worth $30 000 in a terrifying car raid.

Muntari wept on arrival in Accra where his father was recovering and Redknapp has called to offer his support.

Alhaji Sulley Muniru told KickOff: “Blood was flowing from my head like water and I thought I was going to die.

“I am surprised it has taken me so soon to recover because of the amount of blood I lost.

“My sons decided to tell Sulley after the Ghana friendly on Wednesday and he was so shaken that he flew home the very next day. He wept when he saw me.

“His coach has shown great concern. He’s also called to ask how I am getting on. “I want to thank Mr Redknapp because he has shown me that he doesn’t only care about football, but also about family.

“My son is worried robbers will target me because they think I have money through Sulley.”

Alhaji Muniru previously coached Nigerian side Kano Pillars in Northern Nigerian where Muntari was born.
