Ho, Nov. 24, GNA – Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, Vice Presidential Candidte of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the Party’s campaign for the Volta Region was how massive the victory at the coming polls should be rather than how to win it.
“We know we are going to win here, but must do so massively,” he told teeming supporters of the Party at a night rally on Tuesday in Ho to climax a day’s campaign tour of the Region.
He said it was important to step up organisation in order to bring out sympathisers of the Party in all nooks and corners of the Region to cast their votes.
Alhaji Mumuni’s tour also took him to Juapong in the North-Tongu Constituency, Tsito-Awudome, Anyirawase-Awudome, Abutia-Teti and Abutia-Kloe, all in the Ho-West Constituency.
The Vice Presidential Candidate, who is convalescing from a motor accident, said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government came to power by default as a result it had no verifiable developmental blueprint. “The Government’s haphazard and uncoordinated programmes were bit and pieces pinched from a well researched development plan prepared by the NDC government,” he said.
Alhaji Mumuni said the Government’s policy of victimisation had left the country in a deeper state of disunity and apprehension, especially in the run up to the elections.
He expressed regret that the Government’s dealings with Former President Jerry John Rawlings was based on the principle of “cutting him to size” with scurrilous allegations.
Alhaji Mumuni said the National Reconciliation Commission set up by the Government targeted certain personalities and regimes and was flawed even before it started work.
“It was, therefore, not surprising that, the Government orchestrated a leakage of the Commission’s Report to certain individuals and some mass media organisations,” he added.
Alhaji Mumuni said when elected back to power, the NDC would find the perpetrators of the Yendi violence, which led to the killing of the Dagbon overlord, Ya Na Yakubu Andani II and thereafter seek a lasting peaceful solution to the long standing conflict.
He debunked reports that the NDC was taking political advantage of the unfortunate situation in Dagbon saying, the Party’s support base in the area cut across the chieftaincy divide.
Alhaji Mumuni was mobbed and hailed at all his stops, however, there were a few moments of anxiety at Abutia-Kloe when an attempt by NDC fans to ascertain whether an alleged NPP supporter on the rally ground had a recorder or a weapon hidden on him resulted in some heckling and running around on the sidelines.
Mr Wisdom Dafeamekpor, an NDC Activist told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that he heard the alleged NPP supporter made insulting remarks at the rally grounds prior to the arrival of Alhaji Mumuni and suspected he was up to something cynical.
Mr John Ocran, Police Inspector at Abutia-Kloe, however, said a search on the unnamed activist revealed nothing adding that the Police were in control.
At Sokode-Gborgame, supporters attempted to force Alhaji Mumuni to address them by barricading the street with a bench. Alhaji Mumuni also paid a courtesy call on Chiefs, Elders and Religious leaders of the Zongo Community in Ho.
