Mud house collapses on girl after heavy rainfall

A three-and-half-year-old girl on Sunday died at Simpa in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality when their mud house collapsed following continuous rainfall from Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Sarah Boateng, a kindergarten pupil at Amazing Grace Preparatory School at Simpa. She has since been buried.

The Municipal National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Coordinator, Mr. Kenneth Mensah, told the Ghana News Agency that the incident happened at about 0900 hours.

He said Sarah lived with her mother, who escaped without any injury but Sarah was trapped under the collapsed building.

Mr. Mensah said some areas in the Municipality also got flooded but said they were yet to inspect the affected areas to enable them to assess the damage.

Mr. Mensah appealed to those living in mud houses to put up stronger structures to avoid similar disasters to save lives and property in the rainy season.**
