MTTU urged to control accidents around Apedwa, Bunso

Akyem Asafo (E/R), Jan. 31, GNA – Mr Lawrence Asigbe, Assemblyman for Akyem Asafo, has appealed to the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service to organize regular speed checks on the Apedwa-Bunso stretch of the Accra -Kumasi highway to help reduce accidents.

He said last year, six persons were killed in road accidents along that stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway by vehicles running above the approved speed limit.

“On January 15, this year two Metro Transport buses collided on the road and in the process hit and killed a women walking along the road that was from her house along the road,” he said Mr Asigbe who spoke to the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Wednesday at Akyem Asafo expressed the hope that if efforts were made to enforce speed limits along the road, drivers would slow down and help reduce the number of accidents. He used the occasion to appeal to palm wine tapers and hunters to be careful about the way they handled fire because of the severe Harmattan weather to avoid causing bushfires, which could destroy homes, food and cash crops. 31 Jan. 08
