The Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service, on Thursday said it would deploy more personnel to ensure order and compliance of traffic regulations during this year’s Kwahu Easter festival.
The initiative forms part of measures to minimize road-user indiscipline that normally characterize such events in Ghana.
A statement signed by Superintendent S.K. Tetteh, copied to the GNA in Accra, said a team from the MTTU Headquarters in Accra, would join their counterparts in the Eastern Region to intensify enforcement of traffic regulations.
It said: “enforcement of regulations on the highways and roads leading to the event grounds will also be strict, and the MTTU would not tolerate the use of motor bikes at the event grounds”.
The statement said a special team would also be deployed to clamp down on drunk driving, unregistered vehicles, excessive speeding and other road infraction.
“We are also encouraging passengers to play a crucial enforcement role by reporting recalcitrant drivers to the Police for action,” it said.
