Agomanya, Oct.7, GNA- The Secretary of the Eastern Region Road Safety Committee, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), James Amoah, has warned that the Police Service, would consider as a serious offence any driver who undermined the authority of personnel on duty.
DSP Amoah who is also the Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Union (MTTU), gave the warning at Agomenya, during a Road Safety Campaign, organized by the Unit for drivers in the Manya-Krobo District, on Wednesday.
He cited an instance when a chief engaged in a fierce confrontation with personnel of the MTTU, who challenged him for driving with an expired insurance certificate.
Mr. Amoah noted that some members of the public often condoned motor offences and tasked them to rather cooperate with the police to arrest such offenders.
Mr. Isaac Nkrumah, member of the Road Safety Committee, cautioned drivers against the habit of drunk-driving, which he said led to reckless driving.
He said the Committee was in consultation with the district assemblies in the Region to enact byelaws to ban the sale of alcoholic beverages at lorry stations.
The Regional Director of the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA), Rev. Oduro Twum asked the drivers not to overlook the importance of road signs in accident prevention.
