Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr Solomon Kobina Ntim of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) Accra, on Thursday expressed concern about the high rate of indiscipline among private vehicle drivers.
In an interview with the GNA in Accra, he said overspending and ignoring of other basic traffic regulations were some of the offences committed by the drivers. DSP Ntim said statistics showed that out of 1,145 vehicles arrested for driving through red lights, 810 were private vehicles and 335 commercial ones while out of the 107 vehicles arrested for over speeding, 88 were private cars and 19 commercial vehicles.
He said 111 women were among the offenders and urged them to go for further driving training so that they could be more conversant with traffic rules.DSP Ntim said the police has mounted effective checks with cameras and alcoholic detecting devices on patrol vans to check careless driving and other traffic offences.
