MTTU asked to clear traffic mess at Old Press Centre

Accra, Oct. 31, GNA – Residents and businesses at Old Press Centre area at Heart Lane at Kokomlemle in Accra on Tuesday expressed disgust at commercial drivers turning the area into a lorry station thus causing a huge traffic mess.

They said for about one year now drivers who plied New Town, Pig Farm and Kotobabi had moved from their original station to the Lane causing nuisance to businesses by creating undue traffic. According to the Security Officer of Tina-fa Computer Services, Mr Alfred Bampoe, efforts to eject the drivers from the area had proved futile.

“We reported the situation to the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service which drove them away but after a while they returned,=94 he said. He therefore called the police and the GPTRU to take immediate steps to remove the drivers from the area as their presence was impeding business.

One of the drivers told GNA that they moved to the place because of construction work at their former park. He said their present location was temporary.
