Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN), over the weekend, presented a cheque of GH¢5,000 to the Oguaa Traditional Council in support of this year’s celebration of the Fetu Afahye by the chiefs and people of Oguaa. The Traditional Council also received recharge cards worth GH¢1,000, drinks hampers worth GH¢500, and assorted MTN souvenirs.
The Acting Senior Manager for the South-West Business District of MTN, Mr. Laud Amma, presenting the donations, noted that the relationship between the company and the Oguaa Traditional Council started some seven years ago, and will deepen further to be associated to the Fetu Festival.
He stressed that the rapid development of Oguaaman and the world at large makes it relevant for one to take retrospective effect to measure past successes and plan ahead, hence the theme “Celebrating Oguaaman, Past Achievements, the Way Forward” can never be over emphasised.
Mr. Amma stated that MTN hoped that the efforts put into the festivities would help preserve the heritage as a people, and to promote development and economic empowerment in the community, as rich history and culture are exhibited to those from the Diaspora.
He mentioned that MTN recognises the rich Ghanaian heritage, and would continue to support and commit resources to traditional authorities to help socio economic development in the various communities in Ghana.
On his part, the Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osaberima Kwesi Atta II, who received the donation on behalf of the Council, thanked MTN for the gesture, and appealed to it to undertake a monumental project in the Cape Coast township that will be in the name of the mobile service provider for posterity.
In a related development, MTN donated an amount of GH¢3,000 and airtime, as well as an assorted souvenirs, to the Nkusukum Traditional Council of Saltpond to support the Odambea Festival of the chiefs and people of the Nkusukum Traditional Area. The Acting President of the Nkusukum Traditional Council, Nana Kwesi Brebo III, thanked MTN for the support.
