MTN presents items for Aboakyer festival

Winneba (C/R), May 5, GNA – The Management of Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) on Tuesday presented a cheque for 3,000.00 Ghana cedis and some recharged cards and souvenirs worth 20,000.00 Ghana cedis, to the chiefs and people of the Effutu Traditional Area, for the celebration of the on-going Aboakyer festival of in Winneba.

Mr Francis Afulani, Marketing, Events and Sponsorship Manager of the Company, who made the presentation on behalf of MTN, said the company will also support community football gala, Miss Aboakyer competition, and the durbar.

He said they would also support advertisements in the print media for the festival.

Mr Afulani said Africa would for the first time host FIFA 2010 in South Africa, and since the company announced its title sponsorship of the tournament, MTN had been rewarding lucky subscribers for their support and loyalty.

Neenyi Ghartey VII, Omanhene of the Effutu Traditional Area who received the items, thanked MTN for their gesture and appealed to other companies to donate towards the celebration of the festival. The chiefs and people of the Effutu Traditional started the Annual Aboakyer festival on Saturday May 1 and it is expected to end on Monday May 9, 2010.

The climax of the festival would be on Saturday May 8, when the two Asafo Companies, Tuafo No. 1 and Dentsifo No.2 would go to the bush to capture a life Deer. The first animal to be brought to the durbar ground is stepped on by the Omanhene, Neenyi Ghartey VII with his left leg, to signify its acceptance according to the tradition and customs. 5 May 10
