MTN Ghana Foundation donates medical equipment to Kotokuom Health Centre

Accra, June 9, GNA – MTN Ghana Foundation (MTNGF) has donated medical equipment worth GH¢30,000 to management of Kotokuom Health Centre in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, to help improve health care delivery. The equipment includes delivery sets and beds, a stethoscope, foetal heart detectors, examination couches, steam and bowl sterilisers, examination lights and a vaccine fridge. A statement issued in Accra on Wednesday and signed by Ms Mawuena Trebrah, Executive Director of MTNGF, said it was to support Ghana Health Service (GHS) in saving lives and bringing quality health care delivery closer to people living in rural areas.

“The Foundation is committed to improving access to basic medical care and has supported some health projects in different communities in Ghana since its launch in November 2007,” it said. The centre was built about four years ago, but could not be equipped with the requisite medical equipment because of the lack of funds.

“MTN has taken up the responsibility of providing the needed equipment after a native of the community appealed for support to enable it to operate efficiently and effectively,” it added. The statement said the Foundation refurbished Korle-Bu maternity ward at 600,000 dollars and could now boast of state-of-the-art equipment such as a complete set of anaesthetic machine, theatre table with all accessories , theatre light combination for all purposes, radiant heater, obstetrics and gynaecology equipment. Others are 11 delivery rooms, a theatre, monitoring and recovery room for three beds, offices for doctors, nurses, orderlies and wash-up area.

The statement said MTNGF also recognised the critical need to support the healthy growth of children particularly and had over the years supported health care projects that benefited children. Recently it donated 91,000 dollars for the refurbishment of the intensive care unit of Princess Marie Louie Hospital in Accra.
