Abutia (V/R), Dec. 2, GNA – Ms Elizabeth Ohene, the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate for Ho-West, has said it was only politicians who had nothing to offer the electorate that resorted to insults and name-calling on political platforms.
“This kind of myopic tendencies are at variance with the real issues affecting the electorate”, she said when addressing a rally at Abutia Teti on Wednesday.
She officially introduced herself to the electorate as a parliamentary candidate for Ho-West.
Mr Francis Agbotse, of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Miss Nancy Ella Sifa of Every Ghanaian Living Everywhere (EGLE) are also contesting the seat.
Miss Ohene said politicians, who insulted their opponents ”are of low esteem and should not be taken seriously”.
She was critical of society’s negative perception towards women, who aspired to political or other leadership positions and appealed to women to accept the challenge and exorcise the wrong notions about their political aspirations.
Ms Ohene said the Government had laid a firm foundation for an economic take-off and it would be an anti-climax if the electorate failed to renew its mandate to pursue its development agenda to a logical conclusion.
She reminded the people that a vote for President john Agyekum Kufuor meant a vote for Ms Ohene and a rapid development of the area. Togbe Gidi V, Paramount Chief of the Abutia Traditional Area, called on his people to do a deep introspection about their needs and determine which of the candidates was likely to understand them before casting their votes.
He expressed regret that the race for the parliamentary seat in the constituency was characterised by insults and name-calling and appealed to the candidates to be civil in their pronouncements.
