Mr Addae to attend TEDGlobal Conference in Rio

Mr Emmanuel Leslie Addae, the Curator for TedxLabone 2014 event, has won a scholarship to attend the 2014 TEDGlobal Conference from 3rd to 12th of October 2014 in Rio, Brazil.

The event dubbed: “the TEDxChange” is a Global Conference being supported with scholarship to over 14 past TEDx event organisers under the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

A statement issued in Accra on Tuesday said these organisers would therefore have the opportunity to meet some amazing people from all over the world coming together to share ideas.

It said Mr Addae was nominated after organising a Tedx event, TedxLabone successfully in his community in Accra in April this year.

Speaking to the Communication Team of TedxLabone, who are feverishly preparing for next year’s event, Mr Addae expressed his excitement at the opportunity granted him to witness a TED event at the highest level being TEDGlobal.

As part of the scholarship, Mr Addae would also have the chance to network with leaders from around the world, TED Fellows and TED Prize winners, as well as attend TEDx-specific workshops to learn and brainstorm with TED staff and other TEDx event organizers.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation collaborate with TEDx to raise awareness around global health and development through TEDxChange, and to develop programmes to help bring new information and ideas to underdeveloped communities.

As part of this partnership, the Foundation is proud to offer scholarships to selected TEDx organizers to experience an official TED Conference.

TEDxChange Scholarships cover the cost of pre-selected TEDx organizers from across the globe to attend official TED Conferences.

The statement said after the conference, the recipients would return to their various countries to implement locally what they have learnt from the conference in order to grow their TEDx community.

“Ultimately, attendees of TEDGlobal will gain a renewed energy and dedication towards TEDx, thereby bringing more opportunities for idea-sharing in their local communities,” it added.

It said attending the Conference also gives organizers the privilege to host a TEDx event with more than 100 attendees, expanding the reach of TED and TEDx in their communities.
