MPs mourn Nyanor

Accra, June 24, GNA – Parliament on Thursday observed a minute’s silence in honour of the late Charles Omar Nyanor, former Member of Parliament (MP) NPP-Upper Denkyira.

They also paid glowing tribute to his memory, saying the late Nyanor’s death was a great loss to his constituency, the legislature and the nation.

The members were contributing to a tribute read by Mr. Felix Owusu-Agyapong, the Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs.

The late Member of Parliament, who was Chairman of the Divestiture Implementation Committee (DIC) and a Minister of State, would be buried on Saturday, June 26.

The Majority Leader said: “Mr C O Nyanor was a man of many parts: an economist, a political scientist, a banker, a lawyer, an industrialist and a politician.”

He said the late member’s desire was always to serve his people and ensure justice and equity for all.

“Whenever he appeared in Parliament he registered his presence in a loud way by making his voice heard.”

Mr. Kofi Attor, NDC-Ho-Central said the late Nyanor had an independent mind and members had a lot to learn from him. He expressed worry that the house had often not been too involved in the funerals of their colleagues and asked that members set a programme to get more involved in such events.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Foreign Minister, said many politicians had a lot to learn from the late member adding that the House was a lot poorer with his passing away.

Mr. Edward Doe Adjaho, NDC-Avenor, also praised the late Member’s independence and non-partisan approach to his work in general.
