MPs ‘harassed’ by security agencies

Members of Parliament (MPs) have expressed their unhappiness about the constant harassment they go through at the hands of security agencies during national events.

Some MPs were prevented from driving their vehicles into parliament during last Thursday’s state of the nation address by the President.

MP for Tafo Pankrono, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, said the development could denigrate the dignity of parliament if steps are not taken to address it.

Speaking in Parliament, he said MPs “appear to be endangered” and does not see why “if I am coming to parliament the police have the audacity to prevent me from coming but allow other people who have no relationship to parliament to drive in. Some of our leaders are prevented from driving in.”

Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho commenting on the matter called for a look at security arrangement during national events in parliament.
