Mankrong-Junction (C/R), June 10, GNA – The Mankrong-Junction Police have arrested the driver and brother of the Agona East MP for allegedly assaulting Mr Enoch Duodu, Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
They are Kojo Ansie the driver and Kojo Tawiah, brother of Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng the MP.
The Station Officer of the Mankrong-Junction Police, Inspector Peter K. Fosu, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the incident occurred on May 14, 2006 at Mankrong-Junction.
He said Mr Duodu reported at the Police Station with a torn shirt to lodge a complaint of assault on him by Ansie and Tawiah. According to Inspector Fosu the two suspects allegedly assaulted the Agona East Constituency Secretary and that the driver threatened to knock him down with his car any time he saw him while the MP’s brother also threatened to mobilise a gang to beat Mr Duodu any time he went to Agona Duakwa.
The Police Inspector said the two claimed that Mr Duodu had accused them of stealing, which the Secretary could not substantiate. He said initial investigations revealed that the two suspects allegedly plotted to beat Mr Duodo over an old issue between them. Inspector Fosu told the GNA that the suspects would be arraigned before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court to answer a charge of assault. He said on the day of the incident, Mr Duodo and John Mensah, Agona East Constituency Second Vice Chairman were going round making final preparation towards the close of voters registration exercise. Inspector Fosu said the two suspects wanted to beat Mr Duodu when they met him on the Fante Bawjise/Duodu road and where quarrel ensued between them.
He said the Secretary and the Vice Chairman who, were monitoring the exercise sensed danger and returned to Mankrong-Junction but the two chased them there.
Inspector Fosu said a hot argument ensued between Mr Duodu and the suspects, which resulted in an exchange of blows because they alleged that the Secretary had given some instructions to Mr Nti Yeboah at Mankrong-Junction to be given to the two about the exercise. He said that the Secretary reported that his mobile phone got missing during the fight.
The Station Officer stated that Mr Nti Yeboah had been playing hide and seek with the Police, who wanted him to give a statement.
