MPs Decry Condition Of Tema-Aflao Highway

Members of Parliament on Tuesday decried the poor conditions of the Tema – Aflao Highway currently under construction and called for remedial measures to save lives and property.

They contended that if immediate steps were not taken to arrest the situation a greater number of motorists and the travelling public would continue to suffer adversely from the project.

The Members were contributing to a statement made by Mr Joe Gidisu, NDC-North Tongu, on the poor state of the Tema to Sogakofe portion of the Highway, describing it as a death trap.

Gidisu said since the beginning of the construction of the Highway, it was seen as a big relief to the motoring public with the anticipation that everything would be done to reduce the hazards and other inconveniences to the barest minimum during the height of the construction. He said it was rather disappointing to recount that since the contractors Daewoo Construction Limited started the works motorist and travellers had had harrowing experiences on the stretch under construction.

Mr Gidisu said it would have been expected that the road would have been broken into slots and tarred accordingly but it was disturbing to see that the whole stretch of the 60-kilometre road from the Kpone Police barrier to beyond Sege was being treated as a single slot.
