Mpota residents appeal for security protection

The residents of Gomoa Mpota near Winneba-Junction, have appealed to the Minister of Defence and Inspector General of Police (IGP) to save them from attacks by some un-indentified soldiers and police personnel.

According to the residents, a group of armed police personnel and soldiers from Kasoa and Accra had been attacking them without justification recently.

Nana Kwesi Gurah, Abusuapanyin of Gomoa Mpota, who announced this at a media briefing at Mpota, at the weekend, said the action of these security forces could bring chaos and bloodshed if not checked.

He said on July 28, four armed soldiers at about 0500 hours entered one Mr. Ekow Yeboah’s house and beat him mercilessly without any charge or provocation.

According to Nana Gurah, around 1630 hours of the same day, four men dressed in police uniform came to Mpota and picked Mr. Ekow Yeboah again and one Mr. Daniel Duah.

He said they handcuffed the two and took them to the Gomoa Okyereko Junior High School, about two and half miles from the town and subjected them to severe beatings.

Nana Gurah said after the ordeal they were allegedly warned not to speak against the “deposed chief, Mr. Kofi Andoh, else they would come and kill them”.

According to the Abusuapanyin, the matter was reported to Winneba Police and the deposed Chief was arrested with investigations underway.

However, they were still afraid of further attacks, he said, and needed security support to ensure peace and stability in the community.**
