Mpohor-Wassa-East MP donates TV Sets to communities, School

Botodwina (W/R), Sept. 23, GNA – Major Samuel K. Amponsah (Retired), Member of Parliament for Mpohor-Wassa-East, on Thursday presented three 21-inch colour television sets to two selected communities and a school in the area.

The beneficiaries include Daboase Secondary Technical School at Daboase, Botodwina and Daboase communities for use at their community centres.

Presenting the items at separate functions, he said the television sets were meant to awaken the interests of the students and the communities in latest scientific and economic “breakthroughs” in other parts of the country.

Major Amponsah said the students should develop special interests in the President’s Special Initiative (PSI) on Distance Learning to improve their performance.

He said the scourge of the HIV/AIDS was fatal and a serious threat to human survival adding, “the youth in our schools and communities must abstain from sex, develop their talents and skills and contribute their quota to national development”.

The MP said the development of the country could be retarded if its human resources were not properly developed.

He appealed to the communities to take proper care of the items and ensure that they become beneficial to the people.

“These television sets are not for politics and people with different political backgrounds should be able to use it to their advantage.

Receiving one on behalf of the school, Mr. Simon K. Acquah, headmaster, said the school, which was established in 1991 as a community one still lacked the necessary facilities to make teaching and learning easy.

He appealed to philanthropists to come to the aid of the school. Madam Cynthia C. Sonekan and Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, assembly members for Botodwina and Daboase respectively thanked the MP for the donation and pledged to take proper care of them.
