Daboase (W/R) Dec. 15 – GNA – The Mpohor Wassa East District Assembly (MWEDA) spent a total of 40.6 billion cedis on scholarships for nursing, teacher trainees and Senior Secondary School students within the district in the last quarter of this year.

Mr. Edward T. Amprofi, District Chief Executive for MWEDA announced this at the third ordinary meeting of the second session of the assembly at Daboase on Wednesday.

He said the assembly again assisted five community-initiated schools with building materials valued at 183.8 million cedis.

Mr. Amprofi said the assembly continues to support in the rural electrification project and provided 70 wooden poles valued at 108 billion cedis to the Atieku, Domama, Atobiase, Ekutuase and Edwenase communities.

He cited inadequate funds, delays by contractors and the abandoning of road works was a big problem facing the district.

Mr. Amprofi said this had made it difficult for people within the district to travel freely.

He therefore appealed to assembly members to monitor road projects in their areas closely while the department of Feeder roads should not hesitate to abrogate contracts that are delayed.

The DCE cited the Brofoyedur-Prato number two feeder roads, which he said, should have been completed long ago.

He said education of the various communities was very vital and urged assembly members to support all HIV/AIDS educational programmes initiated by the assembly.

Mr. Effah however, noted that internally generated revenue continues to be a problem confronting the assembly and appealed to members to assist in revenue mobilisation in their communities.
