MP urges MMDCEs to ensure strict supervision of projects

Nkoranza (B/A), June 4, GNA – Major Derek Oduro (Rtd), Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza North has urged metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives to ensure strict supervision of projects to prevent shoddy work done by contractors. He advised beneficiary communities to show interest in, protect and maintain government projects to prolong their lifespan. The MP was briefing the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza on the peri-urban and small town water supply and sanitary project, which is aimed at providing potable water and sanitation facilities in rural areas.

The project will benefit about 320,000 people in the 22 districts in Brong Ahafo and also forms part of the government’s millennium development goals. About 112 hand-dug wells with pumps, 621 boreholes with pumps, 18 small town/water systems as well as three multi-village water systems and 5000 places of convenience would be provided under the project. Major Oduro deplored the attitude of some contractors to do shoddy work and amass wealth and urged all stakeholders to help ensure that projects were executed to required specifications. He called on assembly members, traditional authorities and unit committees to organise the people for self-help projects to complement government’s efforts of accelerating the development of the communities. “Citizens resident abroad should also remember that Ghana is our motherland and must mobilize funds to support development projects in their communities,” he added.
