MP to face trial for breach of public order

TAMALE, Ghana, January 25 —- The member of parliament for Savelugu , Madam Mary Boforo and the constituency co-chairmen of the NDC, Alhaji Issah Seaboy and Mr. Alhassan Neindow, are to face trial for breach of the public order act.

They allegedly contravened a police directive not to organise a victory procession of the NDC, which led to a clash between supporters of NDC and NPP in which several persons were injured.

A police source told the GNA in Tamale on Wednesday that the NPP had earlier notified the police of its programme to celebrate the party’s election victory. Later the NDC also applied to celebrate its victory in the parliamentary election in the constituency but the police advised the MP and the constituency executive to suspend it because of a likely clash between supporters of the two parties.

The source said the MP and the two party executives ignored the advice and went ahead to organise the procession.
