MP to converts educational scholarships into trust fund

Accra, April 10, GNA – Nii Amasah Namoale, the Member of Parliament for Dadekotopon, has initiated moves to overhaul and convert into a trust fund, educational scholarship schemes in the constituency to make them more sustainable.

The new programme to be named “Dadekotopon Educational Trust Fund” would be launched in June to assist every needy person in the constituency who places premium on education in order to improve the human resource development of the area.

Nii Nomoale said programmes would be put in place to sensitise and whip-up parents and children’s interest in education at all levels, with special emphasis on vocational and skill training.

The MP said these when he presented four computers and their accessories worth 17 million cedis and a cheque for two million cedis to the La Presbyterian Secondary School last Saturday.

“The equipment is to help the school to improve upon its computer stock and to provide some basic computer education for the students,” he said.

Nii Namoale said though previous education funds set up started very well with the award of scholarships, recent assessments had indicated that they had either died off or were at the verge of collapse.

“And if we all sit unconcerned, especially we the leaders including the chiefs, the assemblymen and women, the religious and opinion leaders, posterity will judge us one day.”

“The value some parents and children in the constituency, especially those in La, put on education leaves much to be desired and we can not allow this attitude to retard the progress of Dedekotopon,” he said.
