MP supports rainstorm disaster victims

Mr James Adusei-Sarkodie, Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima-Nwabiagya, has donated 100 bags of cement and 10 bundles of roofing sheets as relief package for victims of a recent rainstorm that struck Asuofua, in the Atwima District.

The items were bought from his share of the MPs common fund.

Making the presentation, Mr Adusei-Sarkodie deplored the continued destruction of the environment through illegal chainsaw operations and reckless bush burning.

The result, he said, had been that there are now not enough trees to serve as windbreak and reduce the impact of strong winds that often accompany rains in the area.

Mr Adusei-Sarkodie therefore, advised the people to help check the degradation of the vegetation and show greater interest in tree-planting exercises.

The assembly member, Miss Linda Osei Yeboah, who received the items, promised that there would be fairness in the distribution to the affected victims.

The rainstorm, which hit the town in the middle of last month destroyed the roofs of 53 houses and left about 500 people displaced.

Already, the Atwima District Assembly through the district office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) had supplied 30 bundles of roofing sheets and 100 bags of cement to the victims.
