MP supports orphanage

Ampatia (Ash), Jan 13, GNA – Dr Mathew Kwaku Antwi, the Member of Parliament for Atwima-Kwanwoma, on Friday presented a 21-inch television to the Cherubs Foundation International Orphanage at Ampatia in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District.

He also donated a wheel chair costing two million cedis to Ama Konadu, a 25-year-old cripple at Kwanwoma. Presenting the items at a joint ceremony at the Home at Ampatia near Kumasi, Dr Antwi appealed to the NGO to be transparent so that donor agencies could assist them.

Elder Nicholas Osei-Bonsu, President and Founder of the Foundation, thanked Dr Antwi and called for more support to facilitate the development and survival of the children. He said the foundation has set up a target of reaching out to 600 aged people and about 200 orphans and street children by 2008. Mr Charles Agyapong, the Administrator of the Home, said there were 17 orphans at the Home and that the main problem facing them was water supply and appealed to other NGOs and the district assembly to assist.

He commended Fox FM, a local radio station in Kumasi, which presented second hand clothing, biscuits and soft drinks and a cash of 1.350 million cedis to the Home last year.
