MP supports brilliant but needy students in his constituency

Nyinahin (Ash), Dec 28, GNA – Mr. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima-Mponua, has supported about 114 brilliant but needy students in basic and second cycle schools as well as tertiary institutions to the tune of about 57.9 million cedis in his constituency for the 2005/2006 academic year. He has spent 500,000 cedis on 25 pupils in basic schools, 36.7 million cedis on 71 students in second cycle schools, 2.5 million cedis on a teacher trainee and 18.2 million cedis on 17 students in tertiary institutions.

Speaking at a special meeting with polling station chairmen of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Nyinahin last Friday, Mr Asiamah said he had also spent about three million cedis on 15 pupil teachers who have been employed to augment the shortage of qualified teachers in the area. All the money he said came from his share of the common fund, adding that he had also used 29.450 million cedis to buy 450 bags of cement, 20 packets of roofing sheets and nails for distribution to the various communities that had initiated or were undertaking development projects.

“I have used 18.7 million cedis to rehabilitate three boreholes at Ntobroso, Adiembra and Donkoto for these communities to have potable water”. Mr Asiamah announced that the two years rent arrears of the constituency party office has been paid and additional two years advance paid to the landlord. In addition to the payment of the arrears, the MP said the secretariat has been furnished, electricity extended to it and employed an office assistant. He said recreational games like draft, ludo and ‘oware’ have also been provided at the office to provide entertainment to visitors who go there and that plans were far advanced for the construction of a new office complex for the party.

Mr Asiamah asked the party members to come out with alternative suggestions that would move the party forward to get a Positive Change III. The MP reminded the party members that the task ahead was arduous and as such there was no time for bickering and therefore called for co-operation from all to enable them move the party forwards.
