MP stresses need to address child trafficking problem

New Ningo, Aug. 29, GNA — Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, has stressed the need to address the child trafficking problem facing the country.

Speaking at the launch of a get-together organised at the Comme-Ci Beach Resort at New Ningo to commemorate the Annual Homowo Festival of the chiefs and people in the area, Mr Mensah expressed grave concern about the alarming rate at which children were being trafficked within the country and across the borders.

He urged officials of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union to foster closer links with the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service, in order to arrest this social canker. The MP said the problem was a national issue, which required the involvement of all Ghanaians to help reduce it to the barest minimum. Mr James Doku-Paafio, Manager of the Hotel, urged the unemployed youth in the area, to engage themselves in profitable ventures to help make them self-reliant.

Mr Doku-Paafio cautioned the youth to stay away from engaging in mob actions, since that would ultimately land them into trouble. Earlier, members of the Comme-Ci Fun Club, embarked on a route march from Dahwenya through some principal streets of the town to create awareness about the launch.
