Accra, April 5, GNA – Mr Kwadwo Opare Hammond, Member of Parliament for Adenta, has sponsored a mock examination for eight public schools in the constituency.
Some 600 students are writing the mock examination, which started on Tuesday with a prize at stake for the school that would come out with the best results.
The mock sponsorship programme is part of efforts being made by Mr Hammond to ensure that schools in the constituency excelled in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Mr Hammond launched a programme dubbed “MP’s Public School Academic Improvement Programme”, designed for JSS three students in public schools in February this year.
He said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that it was disheartening to see pupils in the public schools failing the BECE and expressed the need to reverse the trend.
Me Hammond said teachers in his constituency were being encouraged to organize extra classes for students, give them homework and provide enough books to facilitate excellent performance in their final examinations.
“I am also providing the teachers with good incentives to encourage them to do extra work to ensure that students are successful in their exams,” he said.
