MP slams NDC members defeated at the primaries for going independent

Mr. Richard Lassey Agbenyefia, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Keta, has taken a swipe at NDC members defeated in the primaries who have filed nominations papers to vie as independent candidates in December.

Mr. Agbenyefia, himself defeated at the Keta primaries by Mr. Richard Quarshigah, was speaking at a well-attended constituency rally at Anlo Afiadenyigba.

He said the move by defeated party members was not fair and appealed to them to withdraw. “I cannot imagine me going independent and swaying a section of our followers from voting for Mr. Quarshigah and end up dividing the NDC front here”, Mr. Agbenyefia said.

The incumbent MP said having lost to Mr. Quarshigah, the NDC Propaganda Secretary, did not suggest all was lost and urged all such members of the party and their followers to show magnanimity to fight for an NDC victory.

“We are still together and we all cannot have our turn at the same time”, he said. He appealed to the people to ignore the unachievable promises being made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and retain the NDC in view of the records.

Mr. Dan Abodakpi, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, said the NDC is the only party that had the welfare of the Volta Region at heart and urged the people to stand firm behind it.

He joined Mr. Henry Ametepe, the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, to cut the sod for the construction of the 15-kilometer Afiadenyigba-Wheta road at a cost of Ghc 5 million.

It is the first phase of the Afiadenyigba-Wheta-Metsrikasa road.

Mr. Joshua Akamba, Deputy NDC National Organizer, said the free senior high school promise by the NPP was a scam to deceive the people for votes and should be ignored.
