Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahafo-Ano East, Mr. Francis Manu Adabor, has expressed concern about the poor infrastructure, and lack of facilities in rural schools and said determined efforts must be made to tackle the problem.
He said the right academic conditions should be created to enable pupils and students in the rural communities to perform.
The MP was speaking at the inauguration of the Sabronum Methodist Senior High/Technical School at Sabronum in the Ahafo-Ano South District.
He saluted the Methodist Church for the significant contributions it was making towards quality education.
He cited its construction of educational institutions from the basic level through second cycle to the establishment of a university.
Mr. Adabor said he also found it heart-warming the premium put on not only academic excellence but discipline and good moral training by the mission schools, and encouraged parents to enroll their children in those schools.
He advised students to concentrate on their studies, and avoid cutting corners.
The Right Reverend Professor Osei Safo-Kantanka, Kumasi Diocesan Bishop of the Methodist Church, said the church was not into education development for financial gain.
He said its goal was to aid the transformation and development of the society.
Bishop Safo-Kantanka, therefore, urged the chiefs and people in the community to show ownership of the school by helping to provide it with the needed facilities.
Mr. Gabriel Barimah, the District Chief Executive (DCE), pledged the support of the Assembly to make the school, a preferred choice of students.
He announced plans to assist brilliant children from poor homes to live their academic dreams.
The Rev Justice Owusu, Acting Headmaster, said the SHS, established 30 months ago, would work hard to join the league of best performing schools in the nation.
The MP later donated footballs, sets of jersey and an amount of GH¢1,000.00 to the school.
