MP for Gomoa East files papers to seek re-election

Gomoa Ekwamkrom (C/R), March 26, GNA – Mr Richmond Sam Quarm, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa East, on Tuesday filed his papers to seek re-election.

Mr Quarm was elected to Parliament in a by-election in April 2003 following a tragic death of the then MP, Mr. Emmanuel Acheampong in February 2003.

Speaking to newsmen before filing the papers, the Mr Quarm said democracy encouraged healthy competition therefore, he was not afraid of other people who wanted to contest the primaries on the ticket of NPP. He said he could not judge his performance as MP himself, saying people from the constituency were better judges, and pledged to abide by the decision of the electoral college for the primaries.

Alhaji Ben Gibrine, Central Regional Organiser of NPP cautioned the constituency executives against supporting any of the candidates and urged them to: “Create a level field for all.”

Mr. Augustus Kofi Mensah, Constituency Chairman of the party announced that, four other people had collected forms to contest the primaries and reminded all aspirants that filing of papers close on March 31st.

He appealed to the candidates and their supporters to conduct decent campaigns devoid of insults and personal attacks.
