MP for Bongo replaces Asaga

Accra, Feb. 12, GNA – President John Atta Mills on Thursday nominated Mr Albert Abongo for the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing.

Mrs Justice Joyce Bamford-Addo, the Speaker, informed the House before the commencement of Public Business and referred the communication from the President to the Appointments Committee. Mr Abongo, the NDC Member of Parliament for the Bongo constituency, replaces Mr Moses Asaga, MP for Nabdam, whose nomination was withdrawn by the President.

The House was later expected to begin the debate for the approval or rejection of ministerial nominees vetted by the Appointments Committee after papers by the committee were laid before the House. However, Mr Alban Bagbin, Majority Leader, called for the suspension of proceedings for two hours to enable members have access to the committee’s reports, go through and prepare for the debate on the nominees.

Mr Frederick Opare-Ansah, Minority Chief Whip, who supported this position, urged Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, Chairman of the Committee, to make sure that members got copies of the reports to ensure proper scrutiny before coming back to debate the matter.
