MP for Ayensuano defeated

Anum Apapam(E/R), May 19, GNA – The dream of Mr Godfred Ochere, incumbent Member of Parliament for Ayensuano in the Eastern Region to return to Parliament for the third time did not materialize as he was defeated in the Parliamentary primaries held at Anum Apapam on Monday.

He was defeated by virtually unknown Mr Samuel Ayeh-Teye 35, a staff of the Driver and Vehicle Licence Authority (DVLA) who polled 64 votes as against 35 by Mr Ochere.

Before the election supporters of Mr Ochere who were anxious he would be retained were singing and dancing while Ayeh-Teye’s supporters were quiet waiting for the results.

After the results were declared supporters of Mr Ayeh-Teye took to the streets and started celebrating the sweet victory of their new candidate.

Mr Ochere accepted defeat and pledged his support to enable the Party retain the seat in Election 2008.

Mr Ayeh-Teye expressed appreciation to the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and promised to work hard to ensure that the Party retained the seat and also increase the “popular” votes.

Mr Yaw Gyekye Amoabeng, Eastern Regional Chairman of the Party urged supporters of the Party to close their ranks and unite with a common destiny to win more votes for the Party.

He predicted that the Party was poised to win not less than 26 seats and more than 75 per cent of the “popular” votes in the Region.
