MP focuses on rural development

Lawra, Dec 10, GNA – Victorious Dr Ben Kuubuor, National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Lawra Nandom constituency said his re-election has reinvigorated him to have a new focus for the development of the area.

He said he carried out a lot of development projects in the area during his four year term in office, including the innovation of Naa Poulkuu primary school at a cost of five million cedis, contributed to the Nandom traditional area educational fund of up to seven million cedis, and also made available an amount of four million cedis each for the 2003 and 2004 Kakube festival.

Dr Kuubuor told the GNA in Lawra after he was announced winner that upon all the speculations that he did not perform in office, the people still had confidence in him, adding that you can assess an MP based on your knowledge of the MP.

Dr Kuubuor, who was very critical about the NPP candidate, Mr Ambrose Dery said most of the NPP supporters thought that the people were against him (Kuubuor) but the results had proved them wrong, adding that areas which were believed to be the stronghold of the NPP candidate even voted against the candidate.

The NDC won both the presidential and parliamentary elections in the constituency. For Presidential NDC obtained 20,627 votes, followed by NPP, which had 9,474 votes and PNC, which also had 1,079 votes and CPP, 328 votes. Parliamentary polls gave NDC 19,308 votes, NPP 8,549 votes, PNC had 830 votes, whilst CPP got 370 votes.

He said Mr Dery relied on the chief, who openly declared his support for him and therefore thought that through the chief he would get the support of the people.

” Now that he has come out into the political fray I will handle him as a politician,” adding that the chief knew about all the development projects that he carried out in the areas, since all was made known to him.
