Accra, March 3, GNA – Mr Joe Kingsley Hackman, NPP-Gomoa West, on Thursday urged the Attorney – General’s Department to fast track the prosecution of criminals as soon as they were arrested to deter other robbers and social miscreants.
He also recommended that the Department should collaborate with the security agencies to do everything possible to confiscate the assets of criminals and also to jail them immediately.
Mr Hackman gave the advice in a statement he read to the House to commend the Ghana Police Service for the arrest of notorious armed robbers.
“I want to commend our gallant Police personnel in the Greater Accra Region, who worked around the clock to arrest the most notorious armed robber in recent history.”
The MP thanked ACP Kofi Boakye and his men, “whose action has brighten the dark canvas of the Police Service and also prove critics wrong and that it is an indication that the professional competence of the security personnel has not been thrown to the dogs”. Mr Hackman said it was good to criticise and scrutinise public organisations, but the degree of insults by some individuals rather tended to demoralise the security personnel.
“Mr Speaker sometimes the level of insults, verbal and physical attacks on the Police personnel and Police stations make one wonder whether the personnel are ordinary human beings.
“The level of corruption and indiscipline in the Police Service, even if it is a perception, is a reflection of what pertains in other public institutions.
“I think it is time individuals and groups made significant contributions in kind and in cash to support our security agencies to make Ghana a better place for us all.”
He said the Police personnel, who effected the arrest, must not only be commended but also rewarded and called on other public servants to learn from the Police to enhance the development of Ghana. 03 March 05
