MP calls for peaceful elections

Gomoa Brofoyedur (C/R), Aug. 30, GNA – The Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe has appealed to Ghanaians to make the December general elections incident free.

Mrs Benyiwa-Doe said as much as possible, “We should not make the elections to be events which should divide our rank,” noting that “Politicians will come and go but the nation will remain intact.” The MP was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Gomoa Brofoyedur near Apam on Sunday to mark the annual Akwanbo festival of the chiefs and people.

She advised people who could not take their voter identification card pictures to take advantage of the mopping-up exercise to do so. Mr. Joe Donkoh, a businessman stressed the importance of the education of girls and advised them to see the MP as a role model. He appealed to politicians aspiring to enter Parliament to refrain from utterances and actions, which could disturb the peace the nation was enjoying.

Mr. Donkoh urged the electorate to vote according to their conscience and not to allow money or gifts to influence them. Mr. John Buadee, the Assemblyman and Nana Apaade Abban, the Queenmother took turns to appeal to politicians and the media to ensure a peaceful election.

Nana Kwa Ketu IV, Obaatan appealed for rehabilitation of the roads leading to the town, public places of convenience and teachers’ quarters.
