MP calls for investigation into Aboakyer clash

Winneba (C/R), May 10, GNA- The Minister for Transport and Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu Constituency, Mr Mike Alan Hammah, has called on the Effutu Municipal Security Council to investigate the causes of the violent clash between the two Asafo Companies, which resulted in the abrupt termination of the durbar to climax the Aboakyer festival.

He said anyone found to be involved in the disturbances should be dealt with severely to serve as a deterrent to others. Mr Hammah made the call when he and some Effutu executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) visited the victims of the clash between the two Asafo companies, Tuafo Number One and Dentsifo Number Two, on Friday May 7, still on admission at the Winneba Government Hospital. The capture of the deer and the grand durbar form the

main part of the week-long celebration of the festival because

it is the animal that is used for the customary rites to

determine if there will be enough fish and food. The Minister appealed to sons and daughters of Effutu,

especially the youth, to refrain from disturbing the peace in the

area, adding that it was only when there was peace and unity

that development could take place. He urged them to burry their differences in the interest of

the development of the area. The MP wished the victims a speedy recovery and later

presented some essential commodities and cash to them for

their up-keep. Mrs Hall Duncan, a Senior Nurse who was on duty at the

Male Ward when the Minister and his entourage visited the

hospital, said Kweku Takyi and Ekow Operty were among a

number of people who sustained various degrees of injuries on

Friday evening while Kweku Bonney was rushed to hospital

on Saturday with stray bullet wounds. She said they were all responding to treatment.
