MP calls for enquiry into renovation of bungalow

Accra, July 16, GNA – Mr. Kofi Attor, NDC-Ho Central on Friday called for a Parliamentary enquiry into the cost of renovating the District Chief Executive’s bungalow in Ho.

Mr Attor was reacting in a statement in Parliament to what he described as “uncomplimentary” remarks made against him by the Volta Regional Minister, Mr. Kwesi Owusu Yeboah, on Friday, July 9, when the Minster was answering a question in the House.

Mr. Francis Agbotse, NDC-Ho West had sought last Friday to find out from the Regional Minister the cost of renovating the District Chief Executive’s (DCE) bungalow and the name of the contractor who undertook the work.

In answer to a question about the state of the bungalow before the renovation, the Minster had stated that: “This property was allocated to the district assembly and it was property that once upon a time was occupied by Hon. Kofi Attor in his capacity then as Regional Organising Assistant to the Committee of the Defence of the Revolution (CDR).”

According to the Minister when Mr. Attor entered Parliament there was no formal handing over of the bungalow rather the place was taken over by cadres and political activists “who also virtually vandalised the place.”

Mr. Attor denied these allegations, describing the statement as “really serious allegations”, adding that this had dented his hard won reputation.

The Member of Parliament said when he left the bungalow it was in a wholesome state and was therefore occupied by a local government official.

“The talk about cadres and party activists moving into the bungalow when I moved out as mentioned by the Minister can only be a figment of the Minister’s imagination.”

“I would like to conclude that the Minister could have found a more convincing way of justifying the huge sums of money they spent on renovating bungalow No 28 Ring Road than blaming previous occupants.”
