MP alleges corruption at DVLA

Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi Central in the Western region, George Kofi Arthur, is alleging corruption at the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) over the issuance of driver’s licenses.

Mr Arthur claims applicants willing to pay more are able to secure driver’s license without going through the laid down procedure.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday June 19, the Amefi Central MP stated: “now if you want a driving license, you will pay GHS 450, and [DVLA] gives you one week and you get it. But if you want to go through the formal process…it can take you about three months”.

According to him, the situation partly accounts for the many road accidents in the country.

But Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Dominic Nitiwul, refuted the allegations. He asked Mr Arthur to report the allegation to the Police if he is committed to fighting corruption.
