MP advises Afrancho residents to bury differences

Afrancho (Ash), Dec. 26, GNA – Mr Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabre West, has advised the people of Afrancho near Kumasi to bury their differences and end a four-year chieftaincy dispute, which has retarded the progress of the town. He reminded them that the progress of every town or community depended on the unity of the people and said the protracted chieftaincy dispute would only draw the town backward.

Mr Owusu-Ansah asked them to make the effort to bury their differences and install a chief for the progress of the town and the prosperity of their children.

He was speaking at a meeting with the people as part of his familiarization tour of the communities in his constituency. The MP said even though it was the policy of the government not to interfere in chieftaincy, it would not allow chieftaincy disputes to erupt into violence and conflict.

Mr Owusu-Ansah said he would construct a block of six classrooms at Afrancho with part of his share of the MPs Common Fund to raise the standard of education in the area.

He advised parents to send their children to school with the introduction of the capitation grant, which was to give meaning to the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) policy. The citizens complained to the MP that in spite of the warning by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II that no land at Kronom should be sold until the enstoolment of a chief, one Owusu Kyei, a self-styled chief of the town and Asantehene’s Manwerehene had flouted the order. They contended that the two people had sold a piece of land earmarked for the construction of a day-care centre for the town, a durbar ground and other facilities.
