Mounting of district assembly elections platform begins

Sekondi, Dec 7, GNA – Mr Steve Opoku-Mensah, Western Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), said on Tuesday that mounting of platforms by aspiring candidates for the district assembly election would start on December 16 and end on December 24. He said aside the usual platforms created by the Commission for aspirants, individual candidates would also be allowed to mount their own platforms to campaign for votes. Mr Opoku-Mensah told the GNA in an interview that over the years voter turn-out at the district level elections had always been low adding, “That is why we have introduced the individual platforms to better educate the electorate on the need to actively take part in the process.” He called on aspirants to also organize their campaign in a more civilized manner devoid of insults and rancour bearing in mind the non-partisan nature of the district assembly election. Mr Opoku-Mensah said he was also not happy about the low participation of women in the district assembly election and called on civil society organizations and NGOs to create awareness among women in order to whip up their interest. 07 Dec. 10
