Mother-love Hospital to offer free health screening

The Mother-love Hospital in Accra will on Saturday, September 23, organise free health screening for more than 1000 residents of Apedwa and surrounding communities.

About 80 health professionals from the Hospital and other health facilities are expected to assist in organising the exercise scheduled to start at 0900 hours to 1700 hours at Apedwa in the East Akim District of the Eastern Region.

Prospective participants would be screened for various health conditions and ailments, including; checking for blood pressure and hypertension, blood sugar test for diabetes, hepatitis B, prostate specific antigen for prostate cancer and Rapid Diagnostic Test for malaria.

Dr Nana Appiah Nkansah, the Coordinator for the exercise, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Wednesday that, there would be health education on the prevention of illness like malaria, hypertension, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, obesity, drug addiction and good sanitation practices.

He said minor ailments discovered during the exercise would be treated, and also refer clients who needed further medical examinations to appropriate health facilities.

Mr Kofi Akrasi Nkansah, the Administrator of the Hospital, told the GNA that, it was targeting people of all ages and that, a sensitisation and publicity drive was ongoing in the targeted communities, to inform residents about the impending exercise.

“We have engaged some churches in the area, while the Krontihene of the Town and the Assembly Member are also assisting in the publicity drive… so every morning they beat the gongon to announce the impending programme,” he said.

The exercise which is the second by the Hospital is being organised in honour of the late Mrs Margaret Nkansa, the co-founder of the Hospital, for her meritorious service to humanity.
