Moslems in Sunyani celebrate Eid-Ul-Adha

Sunyani, Nov. 16, GNA – Alhaji Baba Awudu Gausu, the Secretary to Brong-Ahafo Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdul Kadir, on Tuesday appealed to Muslims to adhere to the tenets of the Eid-Ul-Adha festival to translate its ideals of sacrifice, love and unity into reality. He was addressing Muslims on the occasion of the Eid-Ul-Adha festival at the Coronation Park in Sunyani.

Alhaji Baba Gausu said the Muslim community was “bedeviled with disunity, sectionalism, greed, hypocrisy, back-biting and other forms of social vices”.

He said the community could not develop unless Muslims co-existed in peace, unity and love for one another. Baba Gausu advised Moslems not to make the sacrifice of animals during the celebration only an annual ritual but should let that religious belief be part of their lives to make the poor and the rich have confidence in each other.

Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, commended Muslims for their peaceful co-existence with other religious groupings in the region.

He expressed concern about how armed robbery was gradually gaining prominence in the Brong-Ahafo Region and appealed to religious bodies to continue to pray for God’s intervention to bring the situation under control. On behalf of the Government Mr. Nyamekye Marfo presented a bull, five bags of rice, 100 pieces of mat and GHC 500.00 in support of the celebration.
