Moslems build hospital in Techiman

Techiman (B/A) Sept. 22, GNA – Three Muslim sects at the weekend bagged 22 million cedis towards the construction of a four billion cedis Muslim Hospital in Techiman in Brong Ahafo. Alhaji Maahzu Mahama, Chairman of the Planning Committee of the Brong Ahafo Regional Ramadan Conference disclosed this at a two- day conference attended by 45 delegates from 15 districts in the region.

The conference, under the theme, “Peaceful Co-existence before, during and after 2004 elections, Islamic perspective”, was aimed at bringing the three orthodox sects, Tijaniyya, Islamic Mission Secretariat and Daru Salam, together towards the selection of a day for this year’s Ramadam prayers and fasting.

Alhaji Maahzu Mahama said the hospital project would be undertaken through Muslim household contributions, fund raising harvests and soliciting funds from external sources. He asked Muslims to propagate the good image of Islam and be committed to the construction of the hospital.

Launching an appeal for funds, Mr. Mohammed Amponsah, reminded Muslims that Allah had commanded believers to boost His name by means of assisting their neighbours.

He advised the youth against indulging in social vices and urged Muslim parents to send their children to school, which would enable them to contribute meaningfully to national development. Mr. Musah Yussif Asante, Chairman of Techiman Timber Market and Mr. Ali Abubakari, a businessman, each donated five million cedis, whilst Mr. Baffoe Korsah, a cocoa farmer at Kokroko, pledged three million cedis towards the hospital project.

Among those at the launch were Alhaji Zumur Mohammed Adjaa, Interim Chairman of Bronkyempem Football Club, Mallam Amadu Yahaya and Sbubakari Amponsah, Executive Members of the Ramadam Planning Committee.
