Mornah: Sins of returning officers will not be visited on voters

People’s National Convention General Secretary, Bernard Mornah, says the sins of presiding and returning officers in the 2012 elections should not affect the results declared by the Electoral Commission.

His comment made on the Alhaji and Alhaji political discussion programme, Saturday, appeared to be taking a cue from Justice William Atuguba, presiding Judge of the election petition who after reprimanding Tsatsu Tsikata for filing a late address said the justices will not visit the sins of Tsatsu on his client.

According to him, the fact that some returning officers did not sign on the Election Declaration Form as the petitioners have demonstrated in their evidence, did not mean that people did not vote at the polling stations.

He cited Article 125 (1) which states: “Justice emanates from the people and shall be administered in the name of the Republic by the Judiciary which shall be independent and subject only to this Constitution” – saying he is confident the Court will uphold the will of the people.
