Accra, Oct. 16, GNA – Over 100,000 members of the Church of Christ of Later-Day Saints across Africa would on Saturday October 27, join in Service Project to help clean up their communities and villages. The one-week free labour would be held in 134 various service projects in 15 different countries across Africa. In Ghana, 24 different service projects were planned by 12 different districts of the Church, Elder John Bingham, Public Affaires Director Africa West Area, told Journalists at a press conference in Accra.
Elder Bingham said the service projects would be organized in eight hospitals, three children’s homes and special schools, two police stations, a football stadium, three markets, a low rent housing project, and several neighborhoods and regional streets throughout the southern part of the country.
He said on that day, local Church Leaders would partner with the communities, public and private organisations, and other Churches to make the clean-up effort a success.
“These service projects are recognized by the bright gold or yellow ‘Mormon Helping Hands’ vests worn by members of the Church as they provide service or respond in time of need during natural disasters to help their less fortunate neighbours,” he said. He said the service project formed part of the church’s social responsibility in the communities in which it exists and urged the public to come out in their numbers to assist members of the church to achieve the goals of the project. 16 Oct. 07
